MARSHALL AND THE OTHER REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY

Tonight Bravo will air the final episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Here’s what the review in the NY Daily News said about it.

You have no idea how low-rent an expensive life can be until you've watched The Real Housewives of New Jersey.

But you'd better hurry. Tonight is the finale to the six-week series, which means that if there is a God, we will be saying goodbye forever to Dina, Caroline, Teresa, Jacqueline and Danielle.

Which means we can all take a shower and move forward as if this were just a cheap dream.

On the other hand, anyone hoping the show would eventually devolve into Trailer Trash Theater — and really, there's no other reason to have kept watching — won't be disappointed.

The producers aren't stupid. They know if they put the women in expensive clothes, send 'em to a fancy restaurant and give 'em a few drinks, there's a very good chance we will soon see a catfight that makes Jerry Springer look like Pride and Prejudice.

I have a bond with a much classier, completely different group of Real Housewives of New Jersey. They’re a book club, and I met them when The Rabbit Factory came out. While authors don’t usually make house calls, one of the club members was a friend of a friend, so I agreed to go. It was a fantastic evening. Lots of smart questions, lots of reader insight, and an abundance of great food, including a carrot cake, decorated as an homage to my book.

The following year I went back for Bloodthirsty. Another lively discussion, and this time, the dessert tribute was a home made blood red velvet cake that was so good, I wrote it into Flipping Out, just to make sure it would be served again. Not only did I get the cake, but Gina, who baked it, decorated it to look like the Flipping Out book cover.

I’ve never watched The Real Housewives of New Jersey, but I’m going to tune in to Bravo tonight and decide for myself if it’s as bad as that review said. And then a year from now, I’m going to reconnect with the other real housewives from New Jersey.

Ladies, you rock. And by the way, I’ve already written dessert into my next book.

You're like one of those guys that writes stuff and then it happens in real life. Except clearly you're not "like" one, you are one.

Please keep your prognostications to the dessert field. That's a weighty power [snort - ouch, I think I hurt myself with that one]. Wield it wisely, o powerful one.

(and I agree: that review was so bad, I *want* to watch it!)
