THIS JUST IN — MADONNA ADOPTS ANOTHER KID
I’ll admit it. I’m one of those people who flips the TV on as soon as I wake up. Important stuff happened while I was asleep, and despite that fact that I can get my news from The New York Times or NPR, I prefer Good Morning America.
Robin Roberts is all heart, Sam Champion is contagiously cheery, Chris Cuomo is finally starting to grow on me, and of course, Diane Sawyer reminds me a lot of my next wife.
My morning started out on a downer. Diane was on vacation.
The big news of the day was this — if you’re still getting your television signal through rabbit ears, starting at 12;30 pm you’ll get nothing but snow. Hmmm…isn’t that the same news they’ve been broadcasting for the past year? Okay, I get it. Today’s the day. I mean don’t I tune in every December 25 to see if it’s really Christmas? But now give me some real news.
Here’s what I got:
You’re fired — again. Donald Trump fires Miss California. But this time he means it. Stay tuned for our exclusive interview with the Donald.
More Sonny than Cher. Chastity Bono has decided she no longer wants to be Sonny and Cher’s daughter. For more on her upcoming sex change operation, stay tuned for an exclusive interview.
How Adam told Mom he’s gay. Adam Lambert finally admits what millions of people already knew. He’s gay. For more on how he broke the news to his mother, stay tuned for an exclusive interview. (I imagine the first thing he said, was boy, Mom, I’m sure glad you came out of that coma, because I have something to tell you.)
Posso suono più credibile in Italiano? The young woman on trial for murder in Italy can’t decide whether to testify in English or Italian.
And finally, they cut to Sam Champion whose big weather news was that it was raining in Central Park. Stayed tuned for our exclusive Good Morning America concert with the Jonas Brothers live from — guess where — Central Park.
That was it. If Iraq, Afghanistan, or the fiscal apocalypse reared their ugly heads, it didn’t come up. If that’s TV news, I may just reinstall the rabbit ears.
At least until Diane Sawyer gets back.
So how about you? Having a problem dealing with news that isn’t newsworthy?
Marshall posted on June 12, 2009 11:59 AMI just have a problem with the news in general. It's usually depressing, so I stopped watching long ago. I like being uninformed. (for a minute that looked like "uniformed", and I giggled a bit)
Suzy posted on June 12, 2009 2:03 PMMarshall your post reminds me of what a friend of mine once said. He said the reason why no intelligent life forms passing by Earth would ever contact us is because if they took any time to monitor our radio or television transmissions they would have a real hard time convincing their superiors that contact with such a civilization would have any real benefit to them!
