HEY DUMBO, YOU NEVER REALLY NEEDED THAT FEATHER

You can fly. And you don’t need any help.
Others may look at your big floppy ears and laugh, but that’s their problem.
Your problem is that you don’t even realize you have wings.
Fifteen years ago I got fired and I thought my world would come to a crashing stop. How could I go on without … others. Without … Them. They were my engine, my crutch, my wings.
I was wrong. Getting fired was the best thing that could have happened to me. Because it’s only when you drop the feather — or in my case, have it ripped from your little trunk — that you finally realize that hey… it doesn’t always take a village. That sometimes, no help is the best help you can get.
We all have our moments of doubt. Or people in our lives who drive big fat doubt stakes into our hearts.
So just in case this metaphor is coming off like a bad fortune cookie, let me give it to you straight.
You’ve got the brains, the talent, and the stamina to get whatever it is you’re going after.
The only thing that’s weighing you down is that anchor you’ve been thinking is a feather.

And I'm so glad that you got rid of your anchor. We're all blessed by that!

Sam posted on September 30, 2009 8:41 AMI love it when you give us advice. I hope I can take it to heart, because I really need to hear that. Somehow, I will dig deep and find my self confidence. I swear, some parents really screw up their kids.
